All my works are related by conceptual underpinnings and process. Remember that despite the simplistic reasoning of some modern curators, the hand is the mind, and as such just because the hand is used in creation of a work does not eliminate the work’s conceptual underpinnings, or the contradictory de-materialization as an art object. ***I am self-teaching using WordPress for this site and will take a few months to finish***
The conceptual ‘Eye am Witness’ project was inspired by my NeuroMorphic Universe eye guys along with earlier related works. They fulfilled the challenge of simultaneously creating works for children and adults.
Intuitive abstraction including bioMorphic works that are related to my biological and medical background along with formal ideology as well as a philosophical/emotional space.
‘In my Garden’ is a longstanding conceptual project encompassing the DNA of memory and other works inspired by my the garden. It is performative in its nature, though it has resulted in hand made works.
Retablos are altars of worship present in many diverse cultures. In my Hispanic culture they are related to altars honoring loved ones that we connect with spiritually. I have appropriated this practice to say important things in society and in my life.
I presented my first NeuroMorphic Universe project at the time of my MFA thesis in the Aidekmann Gallery at Tufts University. Saxa Loquuntur – We live in a NeuroMorphic Universe. We are connected in ways that are visible yet intangible.
The Grid has been a longstanding process and conceptual element in art history. I have been fascinated by the Grid from the beginning when I started painting as a young adult. It was used by the old masters in creating large images from small drawings. It has been a constant part of artistic elements in a myriad of ways.
My project ‘Between Presence and Absence – Making Roots’ started in 2004 and has continued to this day. What is the space Between Presence and Absence? How can we connect? What does the journey disclose as we are Making Roots? What does it mean to a person such as I am, transitional in terms of ethnicity and culture. Not given an institutional voice on any side due to not fitting a hegemonic mandatory stereotype.
My project ‘Americana Hispana’ as well as a related conceptual offshoot ‘Move Over Andy’ which embody my declaration that the Caribbean and native Indian culture was here before Columbus muddied the waters for his European masters. In addition, Move Over Andy is declaratory that it is time to push out the old hegemonic dominant in our society.
I have always loved creating playful works that inspire children, or the child in the adult which still has awe and wonder.
For close to two decades I have been doing a conceptual performance project that becomes a portrait that I give as a gift to someone whom otherwise would never have such an object in their lives.
The landscape is metaphorically and concretely a very important conceptual underpinning of abstraction. It exists at the core of most works, but in this group predominantly favors the actual geographic landscape.
Sculptural objects that are not ceramic
Ceramics is a wonderful artistic medium from which to create purely functional yet aesthetic objects, or purely abstract.
